Purpose of the Programme

The initiative was designed to strengthen the connection between management education and workplace realities. It aimed to expose students to current industry perspectives while encouraging them to evaluate their own professional capabilities, career aspirations and readiness for a changing business environment.

Programme Objectives

The programme opened with a formal welcome to the participants and an introduction to the “Build Yourself” initiative. The anchoring segment established the relevance of industry exposure for students preparing for professional careers. An institutional introduction followed, acknowledging JDBIMS and its role in providing professional education, industry exposure and value-based learning.

The leadership of Prof. Dr. Mahesh V. Shitole was also acknowledged in the opening segment, highlighting the institute’s focus on holistic and future-ready student development. The central segment introduced Mr. Roshan Thapa as the invited industry speaker. The session then moved into a practical discussion of business and professional themes, allowing students to relate management concepts to real-world situations.

Major Discussion Areas

Business Strategy: Students were encouraged to approach business situations analytically, recognise opportunities and consider the wider implications of managerial decisions.

Sales and Business Development: The discussion brought attention to the role of customer orientation, execution and business understanding in achieving organisational objectives.

Investment and Growth: Students were introduced to the relationship between investment decisions, opportunity identification and sustainable business growth.

Digital Transformation: The session highlighted the continuing influence of technology on business models, processes and professional roles, underlining the need for digital awareness.

Career Readiness: The discussion emphasised that employability depends on a combination of knowledge, practical capability, communication, attitude and the willingness to keep learning.

Student Engagement

The seminar maintained an interactive academic environment, with students attentively participating in the industry-oriented discussion. The presence of the speaker and other dignitaries created an opportunity for students to observe professional perspectives directly and relate them to their own learning and career plans.

The programme also encouraged students to think about the competencies they need to strengthen before entering the workforce, particularly communication, adaptability, strategic thinking, initiative and professional confidence.

Key Takeaways

  • Academic knowledge becomes more valuable when students understand how it is applied in actual organisations.
  • Future managers must be comfortable with change and capable of learning continuously.
  • Strategic thinking requires an understanding of both immediate decisions and long-term organisational impact.
  • Technology and digital transformation are influencing the expectations placed on management professionals.
  • Career development should be treated as an ongoing process of capability building rather than a onetime activity.
  • A professional attitude, confidence and willingness to take action can significantly strengthen employability.

Overall Outcome

The seminar successfully provided students with meaningful exposure to industry thinking and professional expectations. It encouraged participants to move from a purely academic perspective towards a more practical and career-focused understanding of management.

The programme served as a constructive learning experience and supported JDBIMS’s objective of preparing students to become confident, adaptable and industry-ready management professionals.
